The views to the west overlooking Clear Creek Canyon are expansive and distinctly backcountry, not a city or house in sight. Ravens, vultures, and even golden eagles circle overhead along with the paragliders, and in the spring and summer you will be buzzed by hummingbirds as you climb.

This is a unique place for the Golden area, with mostly moderate slab and face climbs leading to airy perches over quiet woods full of willows, wildflowers, and lots of wildlife. Several layers of cliffs rise from a wooded slope, offering surprisingly good rock quality and a secluded, beautiful setting. If you had x-ray vision, and you stood in downtown Golden looking through the big white "M," you would see the Tiers. Zion (Nuu-agha-tuvu-pu and Cheyenne territory). The area can be seen from a distance as a swirling light-brown dust cloud.The Tiers are hidden high on the northwest face of Mt. The contaminated environment inflicts severe radiation damage without the proper protection, causing death. The area is enclosed in a yellow-orange haze with occasional flashes of lighting. Post-nuke dust clouds are localized within blast zones, the player character-designated areas targeted by a nuclear missile. This effect is amplified when facing toward the sun and looking outside from interiors. A heavy gray haze blankets the area, lowering visibility. Each region of Appalachia has different chances of weather types occurring.Īsh storms occur within the Ash Heap, primarily near Mount Blair. Rain clouds and radstorms in Fallout 76 move across the map and can be seen from a distance. In addition to overcast, fog, and rain, the game introduced ash storms and radioactive, post-nuclear dust clouds. The introduction of an improved dynamic lighting model and subsurface scattering further enhances the appearance of weather effects compared to previous games. Weather can be changed using weather ID console commands.įallout 76 built upon and expanded the real-time weather system from Fallout 4. Radiation storms last for about two in-game hours and are comparatively rare in terms of weather conditions. Although lightning strikes, it doesn't rain during radiation storms. During this time, the outside world will gain a green tinge, and occasional flashes of lightning will inflict radiation damage to the Sole Survivor.
These storms are brought in from the Glowing Sea and temporarily go over the majority of the Commonwealth. On occasion, a relatively more dangerous radiation storm may ensue.
There is a chance for thunder (not related to the radiation-emitting lightning from radiation storms) while it is raining at night. The length of these varies and progresses naturally as the day goes on. The world alternates between clear skies, assorted degrees of overcast, fog, and even rain. The player character will experience frequent rainstorms during their travels around Zion Canyon.Ī comparison between two different weather types, fog and a radiation storm, at the same locationįallout 4, compared to the previous games has a much more immersive real-time weather system. The sound of thunder can be heard upon fast travelling to, or just standing around, Black Mountain.
